Movie Review: The Way Home

Normally I review books on this blog, but this time I had a chance to check out a movie for free.  The movie is called The Way Home and it stars Dean Cain in a role that is very different than his Superman role that he is most famous for.

A missing child. A family in crisis. A faith tested. In their darkest hour, God gives hope.

Dean Cain stars as Randy Simpkins, a husband and father torn between the demands of his job and family. Asked by his wife to watch their two-year-old son, Joe, for a few minutes, he becomes distracted by work. When he returns, Joe is gone. He and his wife search desperately for their missing son through the vast countryside. But as their fear grows, the community responds – hundreds of supporters uniting behind the family in a powerful spiritual journey that will test the couple’s love and faith, and forever change a community.

This story really hits home for those of us that struggle with priorities.  I was very convicted of how often I glance at the email on my iPhone when I should really be playing with my daughter.  I was also reminded of the power of true Christian community.  In this movie, the entire community showed up to be the body of Christ to this family in a crisis situation.  I appreciated the fact that the Christian values came through strong without being overly cheesy.

Now that I am done with my copy of The Way Home, I’d love to give it away to one of you.  I am taking comments on this blogpost until Sunday, October 3.  Come up with a creative reason why I should give you this movie.  I’ll pick a winner and get it to you after October 3.  Come on…something creative!
