Marriage and Money

The Bible has a ton to say about money.  Money is the leading case of divorce.  The church and society are always wondering why marriages are falling apart.  One great idea would be to put some resources towards teaching couples how to manage money.  In the end, not only does the money get managed, but trust is built, families are strengthened, and God is honored.  I know that learning how to manage money has been an awesome thing for Clint and I to go through together.  We both grew up in families that were never able to get ahead of the curve in this area.  It wasn’t our mom’s fault, there were some considerable extenuating circumstances that were out of their control.  They always did the best they could and neither Clint nor I ever lacked anything we needed.

We decided early on that in our relationship that we wanted to gain victory in the area of money management.  We are still in the midst of this process, but our goal in the end is to give away more than we spend on ourselves.  We believe that is what God has called us to.  If He has called us to that, He will guide our steps to make that happen.

Here are some great Bible verses that speak to the power that money has on a person…

Philippians 4:19
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Malachi 3:10
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Acts 20:35
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

Proverbs 22:7
The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
