Christmas Reading: December 6

Today’s Readings: Acts 20:35 and 1 John 4:10 (English Standard Version)

Acts 20:35
35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

1 John 4:10
10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Takeaways:

  • We must help the weak.  Who do I encounter on a daily basis that is weak?
  • It is definitely more blessed to give than to receive.  I have learned this even more in the past two years since Emma has come on to the scene.  As a parent, I now have a much greater understanding of the way that God loves me.
  • Our love for God is only out of response to the love that He first showed to us.
  • Propitiation is a big word…but it means that Jesus took our place and paid our debt.  Gratitude is another big word…it should be used to describe our response to His propitiation for our sins.
