Advent Devotional

Advent literally means “arrival”.  Advent started November 30 and finishes up on December 24th.  Each year I like to do something different for my devotional time during Advent.  This year, I am following the readings put together by Mars Hill Bible Church.  This is the church pastored by Rob Bell of the Nooma videos.

In the traditional Church calendar, “Advent” is a time for celebrating the coming of Jesus: both remembering his birth and anticipating his future arrival, the restoration of all things.

If you are interested in the readings, here is the link.  The readings are focused on the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.

Isaiah 9:6-7
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.  He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.  The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”
