{"id":10794,"date":"2017-06-04T18:14:56","date_gmt":"2017-06-04T23:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=10794"},"modified":"2017-06-04T18:15:28","modified_gmt":"2017-06-04T23:15:28","slug":"10794","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=10794","title":{"rendered":"Book Review: Goliath Must Fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10795\" alt=\"41ofQP-huLL\" src=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/41ofQP-huLL.jpg\" width=\"328\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/41ofQP-huLL.jpg 328w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/41ofQP-huLL-196x300.jpg 196w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Goliath-Must-Fall-Winning-Against\/dp\/0718088867\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1496617834&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=goliath+must+fall\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Goliath Must Fall<\/em><\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.louiegiglio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Louie Giglio<\/a>\u00a0has found a spot on my &#8220;read this book often list&#8221;. \u00a0It was on page 60 when Louie asked &#8220;<em>Ask yourself this: What in your life have you truly ever controlled?<\/em>&#8221; that I realized that he was writing this book for me&#8230;he knows my problem&#8230;my giant. \u00a0This book was a great read driven by the truth of Scripture meant to remind the reader of the gospel. \u00a0I have to remind myself everyday that the gospel is true for me today, just like it was yesterday, and just like it will be tomorrow. \u00a0What are your giants? \u00a0Pick up this book and while you are at it&#8230;but a copy for a friend as well.<\/p>\n<p>Philippians 1:6 \u201che who began a good work in (us) will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I highlighted several things while reading and posted those notes below&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"no\"?--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus didn\u2019t come to earth to die on the cross and be resurrected from the grave so we could settle for a reduced amount of God\u2019s best. John 10:10 1 Thessalonians 3:8\u00a0p. 8<\/li>\n<li>Time and time again, God had done miraculous things for his people. \u00a0But they\u2019d forgotten. p. 12<\/li>\n<li>Whatever giant we\u2019re battling might be big\u2014but it\u2019s not bigger than Jesus. p. 15<\/li>\n<li>We are not David in the story of David and Goliath. \u00a0Jesus is. p. 21<\/li>\n<li>Worship puts God in focus. \u00a0When the Almighty is in view, our giant\u2019s power over our thinking begins to flicker and fade. p. 24<\/li>\n<li>Your giant is dead. \u00a0And yet\u2026your giant is still deadly. p. 33<\/li>\n<li>Romans 6:9 \u201cFor we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.\u201d p. 35<\/li>\n<li>2 Peter 1:3 \u201cHis divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.\u201d p. 41<\/li>\n<li>See, whenever a problem is concealed, it finds power in the darkness. \u00a0But when a problem is confessed, it loses that power. \u00a0Confession brings the light of Christ to shine upon that problem. p. 46<\/li>\n<li>Fear comes from our conditioning. p. 57<\/li>\n<li>Fear comes from our concealing. p. 58<\/li>\n<li>Fear comes from our controlling. p. 58<\/li>\n<li>The antidote to fear is faith, and the soundtrack of faith is worship. p. 59<\/li>\n<li>Ask yourself this: What in your life have you truly ever controlled? p. 60<\/li>\n<li>The Stuff of Faith<br \/>\nWe remind ourselves that God is able.<br \/>\nWe set the Lord always before us.<br \/>\nWe name what\u2019s keeping us up at night.<br \/>\nWe fill our mouths with praise. p. 74<\/li>\n<li>Worship and worry cannot occupy the same space; they can\u2019t both fill our mouths at the same time. \u00a0One always displaces the other. \u00a0We either speak doom and destruction, kicking into high gear our worrying and stressing. \u00a0Or we recount the size and the character of the Almighty. \u00a0We release our outcomes to him and center our thinking in his sovereign plans. p. 74<\/li>\n<li>You are worth Jesus to God. p. 81<\/li>\n<li>Philippians 1:6 \u201che who began a good work in (us) will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.\u201d p. 89<\/li>\n<li>How do we embrace confidence in His acceptance?<br \/>\nWe understand the miracle of our creation.<br \/>\nWe revel in the mystery that Jesus chose us.<br \/>\nWe grasp how costly it was for Jesus to rescue us.<br \/>\nWe live from acceptance, not for it. p. 102<\/li>\n<li>Faith thrives in holy discomfort. p. 115<\/li>\n<li>How can we make sure we don\u2019t lose God\u2019s opportunity by settling back into our comfort and complacency?<br \/>\nWe remember that faith thrives in discomfort.<br \/>\nFaith thrives in holy discomfort. \u00a0The greatest moments in life can often results from some of the most uncomfortable decisions being made. \u00a0Nothing worth having comes without a cost. p. 121<br \/>\nWe remember the point of our lives is the fame of Jesus.<br \/>\nWe align ourselves with God.<br \/>\nWe remember life is short. p. 125<\/li>\n<li>We believe what God did for us is greater than what anyone would do against us. p. 153<\/li>\n<li>How is anger dealt with? \u00a0How does this giant fall? \u00a0When we throw the following five smooth stones of truth:<br \/>\nWe remind ourselves we aren\u2019t perfect to being with.<br \/>\nWe remind ourselves that God has made peace with us.<br \/>\nWe believe God is our avenger.<br \/>\nWe forgive.<br \/>\nWe remind ourselves we are sons and daughters of God. p. 163<\/li>\n<li>We are able because God is able. p. 169<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t give the Enemy a seat at the table?
