{"id":11342,"date":"2018-02-25T19:31:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T00:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=11342"},"modified":"2018-02-25T19:31:00","modified_gmt":"2018-02-26T00:31:00","slug":"book-review-talent-magnet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=11342","title":{"rendered":"Book Review: Talent Magnet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Talent-Magnet-Attract-People-Performance\/dp\/1523094958\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11343\" alt=\"41rBmxjUXmL._SX321_BO1,204,203,200_\" src=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/41rBmxjUXmL._SX321_BO1204203200_-194x300.jpg\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/41rBmxjUXmL._SX321_BO1204203200_-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/41rBmxjUXmL._SX321_BO1204203200_.jpg 323w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Why do you do what you do all day everyday?\u00a0 What is it that gets your motor running everyday as your alarm goes off and the day gets underway?\u00a0 I&#8217;m incredibly blessed to be living out the calling that God has placed on my life as a part of the family at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncchristian.org\" target=\"_blank\">North Cobb Christian School<\/a>.\u00a0 There are a variety of things that I absolutely LOVE about my job&#8230;serving teachers and students, investing in families, and building up people who will impact the world for Christ.\u00a0 The main area where I have the opportunity to impact eternity is through the people that we hire to pour into the hearts and minds of our students.\u00a0 Hiring is one area that continually drives me to my knees year in and year out.\u00a0 I pray and hope that will never change.\u00a0 I never want to take this area lightly.<\/p>\n<p>I was so grateful to receive an email a few weeks ago inviting me to be a part of the launch team for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/weavinginfluence.com\/leaders\/mark-miller\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Miller<\/a>&#8216;s latest book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Talent-Magnet-Attract-People-Performance\/dp\/1523094958\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Talent Magnet<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve enjoyed reading several things that Miller has written over the years.\u00a0\u00a0I blogged about\u00a0<em>The Heart of Leadership<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=7623\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0in October of 2013.\u00a0 Miller challenges me to ask the right questions.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Talent Magnet<\/em> is a fable about a business leader and his network as well as his son and his friends that desire to make a real impact.\u00a0 Weaving together their goals for spending their lives well, they come up with a formula to attract Top Talent with the understanding that people want: A Better Boss. A Bigger Vision. A Brighter Future.<\/p>\n<p>This book is an EXCELLENT resource for anyone who hires or leads people in any capacity.\u00a0 I highlighted several things while reading and have posted those notes below&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase the caliber of your players and you increase your chances of winning. p. 1<\/li>\n<li>What attracts and keeps Top Talent is different than what attracts and keeps typical talent. p. 2<\/li>\n<li>What is our people strategy? \u00a0Who is our target employee? \u00a0How would you describe him or her? p. 15<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s a Talent Magnet? \u00a0A place so attractive, Top Talent will be standing in line to work here. p. 16<\/li>\n<li>Why Top Talent?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Creates competitive advantage.<\/li>\n<li>Is more agile.<\/li>\n<li>Produces better results.<\/li>\n<li>Responds well to complexity.<\/li>\n<li>More growth-oriented.<\/li>\n<li>Represents our brand well.<\/li>\n<li>Accelerates growth.<\/li>\n<li>Creates our future.<\/li>\n<li>Creates energy.<\/li>\n<li>Attracts more Top Talent. p. 25<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Top Talent is different. \u00a0I\u2019m convinced it will take something different to attract them. p. 27<\/li>\n<li>Focused leadership energy creates impact. p. 40<\/li>\n<li>How would working here help me prepare for my future? p. 46<\/li>\n<li>Our goal is to help you learn skills that will serve you the rest of your life. p. 57<\/li>\n<li>If we get the people part right, everything else is much easier. p. 58<\/li>\n<li>When we provide the things most valued by Top Talent, we dramatically increase the likelihood they will want to work for our organization. p. 75<\/li>\n<li>What attracts Top Talent?
