{"id":12292,"date":"2019-06-17T19:54:41","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T00:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=12292"},"modified":"2019-06-17T19:54:41","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T00:54:41","slug":"book-review-run-the-mile-youre-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=12292","title":{"rendered":"Book Review: Run the Mile You&#8217;re In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/81kd2awI1vL.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12293\" src=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/81kd2awI1vL-665x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"665\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/81kd2awI1vL-665x1024.jpg 665w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/81kd2awI1vL-195x300.jpg 195w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/81kd2awI1vL-768x1182.jpg 768w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/81kd2awI1vL.jpg 1559w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am definitely not a runner.\u00a0 In fact, if you see me running past you, you should join me and do your best to keep up because something or someone is chasing me.\u00a0 I usually love the way that I feel after running\u2026but nothing about the preparation or participation in running is really my jam.\u00a0 But I REALLY loved this book and the opportunity to learn more about Ryan Hall and his journey as the Fastest American Half Marathoner as well as a husband, father, and most importantly\u2026a man of faith.\u00a0 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Run-Mile-Youre-Finding-Every\/dp\/0310354374\/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=ryan+hall&amp;qid=1560818587&amp;s=gateway&amp;sr=8-1\">Run The Mile You\u2019re In<\/a><\/em> is a powerful testimony of the way that the Lord has worked in and through Ryan Hall before, during, and after his decorated running career.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Hall has earned a lot of accolades as a runner\u2026and well-deserved!\u00a0 I really enjoyed learning about how his faith has developed as the impetus for his passion for running.\u00a0 He met his wife Sara at Stanford University and they adopted \u201cThe Four Sisters\u201d from Ethiopia.\u00a0 Our family adopted our son from Ethiopia, so I really resonated with a lot of what Hall talked about as he recounted their travels to Addis, to the orphanage, the process, etc.\u00a0 What a blessing to learn more about this family\u2019s story!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I highlighted several things while reading and have posted those notes below.\u00a0 I have already passed this book to a friend and would imagine I\u2019ll recommend it to others as well.\u00a0 What a powerful testimony of keeping your eyes on Jesus and simply running the mile you are in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Passion that comes from our own drive is so much more powerful than passion derived from another person\u2019s dreams. p. 22<\/li>\n<li>Once an athlete finds their purpose, they can focus their entire being on cultivating it. p. 23<\/li>\n<li>I like to look at failure as resistance training. p. 45<\/li>\n<li>Whatever we fix our mind on grows, which is why it\u2019s so important to monitor our thoughts. Perhaps this is why Paul tells Christians, \u201cWhatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worth of praise, dwell on these things.\u201d Philippians 4:8 p. 48<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI can\u2019t afford to have a thought about myself that God doesn\u2019t have about me.\u201d Pastor Bill Johnson p. 50<\/li>\n<li>Jesus states, \u201cI do not receive glory from men\u2026How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?\u201d John 5:41, 44 p. 52<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFor who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.\u201d 1 Corinthians 2:16 p. 82<\/li>\n<li>Comparison sucks the life out of what we are doing. We are all on a beautiful journey, so let us be thankful for every step, even if our journey looks different from someone else\u2019s. p. 100<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.\u201d Proverbs 11:25 p. 115<\/li>\n<li>Grace for the moment is the key to endurance. p. 121<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through their book review bloggers program.
