Today was the 5th and final week of the We Believe series that we have been doing over Christmas at Freedom Church<\/a>. \u00a0This has been a great series, but today was my favorite week because we talked about Communion and the implications that communion has for us as we begin a new year.<\/p>\n

Here are some of my notes from Pastor JR’s<\/a> message today:<\/p>\n

Do we truly understand all of the traditions that we celebrate? \u00a0Do we agree with all of the traditions we observe or do we just do them out of habit?<\/p>\n

I Corinthians 11:23b-26<\/strong><\/div>\n
23<\/strong> The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,<\/span>24<\/strong> and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, \u201cThis is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.\u201d<\/span>25<\/strong> In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, \u201cThis cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
\n

26<\/strong> For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. <\/span><\/p>\n

I Corinthians 10:16
\n16<\/strong> Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Communion encourages us to…<\/p>\n

1. \u00a0To look within<\/p>\n

I Corinthians 11:28-29
\n28<\/strong> A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.<\/span>29<\/strong> For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

2. \u00a0To look back<\/p>\n

Luke 22:19
\n19<\/strong> And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, \u201cThis is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What were the “God moments” I recognized in 2009? \u00a0How am I different now than I was at this time last year?<\/p>\n

3. \u00a0To look ahead<\/p>\n

I Corinthians 11:26
\n26<\/strong> For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

What does God have in store for you in 2010? \u00a0What are you expecting Him to do?<\/p>\n

We closed out the We Believe series and kicked of 2010 by taking communion together as a church. \u00a0Freedom Church exists so that people far from God can experience life in Christ. \u00a0Greater things are yet to come, greater things are still to be done in this city!<\/p>\n
