{"id":1520,"date":"2010-01-25T08:12:44","date_gmt":"2010-01-25T12:12:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=1520"},"modified":"2010-01-25T08:12:44","modified_gmt":"2010-01-25T12:12:44","slug":"colossians-chapter-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=1520","title":{"rendered":"Colossians: Chapter 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year I believe that God is calling me to focus on several books of the Bible so that I can uncover even more of God&#8217;s exciting plan for my life. \u00a0I enjoyed the journey through Nehemiah and now it is on to Colossians for a few days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/colossians-title5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1521\" title=\"colossians-title5\" src=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/colossians-title5-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/colossians-title5-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/colossians-title5.jpg 332w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Text: Colossians 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_1\"><strong>1<\/strong> Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_2\"><strong>2<\/strong> To the holy and faithful brothers in Christ at Colosse:<\/p>\n<p>Grace and peace to you from God our Father.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thanksgiving and Prayer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_3\"><strong>3<\/strong> We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_4\"><strong>4<\/strong> because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints\u2013<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_5\"><strong>5<\/strong> the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_6\"><strong>6<\/strong> that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God&#8217;s grace in all its truth.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_7\"><strong>7<\/strong> You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_8\"><strong>8<\/strong> and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_9\"><strong>9<\/strong> For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_10\"><strong>10<\/strong> And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_11\"><strong>11<\/strong> being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_12\"><strong>12<\/strong> giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_13\"><strong>13<\/strong> For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_14\"><strong>14<\/strong> in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Supremacy of Christ<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_15\"><strong>15<\/strong> He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_16\"><strong>16<\/strong> For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_17\"><strong>17<\/strong> He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_18\"><strong>18<\/strong> And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_19\"><strong>19<\/strong> For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_20\"><strong>20<\/strong> and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_21\"><strong>21<\/strong> Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_22\"><strong>22<\/strong> But now he has reconciled you by Christ&#8217;s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation\u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_23\"><strong>23<\/strong> if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul&#8217;s Labor for the Church<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_24\"><strong>24<\/strong> Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ&#8217;s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_25\"><strong>25<\/strong> I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness\u2013<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_26\"><strong>26<\/strong> the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_27\"><strong>27<\/strong> To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"verse Col_1_28\"><strong>28<\/strong> We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"verse Col_1_29\"><strong>29<\/strong> To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Takeaways:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Colossians was written to address some key problems in the church at Colosse.<\/li>\n<li>Colossians is a foundational book for helping to establish the supremacy of Christ.<\/li>\n<li>Notice that Paul starts out by commending the church because he has &#8220;heard of their faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints.&#8221; (v 4)<\/li>\n<li>I have heard many people claim that Colossians 1:28-29 are some very key verses for the establishment of Christian schools. \u00a0I would agree that this is a fitting manifesto for those of us privileged enough to have the opportunity to teach with a biblical worldview.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t miss Paul&#8217;s intentional choice to point out that he is functioning from the strength of Christ and not out of his own limited capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year I believe that God is calling me to focus on several books of the Bible so that I can uncover even more of God&#8217;s exciting plan for my life. \u00a0I enjoyed the journey through Nehemiah and now it is on to Colossians for a few days.
