Excellent read.  Full of Scripture.  Inspiring. Convicting.  He does a beautiful job of helping the reader understand why we are all truly homesick for Heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I highlighted several things while reading and have posted those notes below&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I will evaluate the resurrection based on its properties &#8211; its truth (correspondence to reality), goodness (that which is morally righteous), and beauty (what moral actions is produces).\u00a0 p. xiv<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Truth = apologetics<br>Goodness = theology<br>Beauty = ethics p. xiv<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Like Jesus&#8217;s scars, your sufferings will be transformed into trophies that gleam with glory.\u00a0 The resurrection is not simply a return to life as it was; it is the offer of a life that is more happy and filled with satisfaction than you have ever imagined.\u00a0 Remember one of the happiest days of your life and realize that this is only a shadow.\u00a0 Every day in the new creation will be infinitely better than your happiest day on the earth.\u00a0 If the resurrection is true, then suffering has an expiration date. p. 32<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C.S. Lewis became a Christian because he suddenly saw that Christ&#8217;s story satisfied all his longings. p. 36<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you don&#8217;t believe in the resurrection, your pain is pointless.\u00a0 p. 37<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The resurrection is ultimately good because it is the death of death. p. 55<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8220;We can only desire what we can imagine.&#8221; &#8211; Randy Alcorn p. 64<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the end of Lewis&#8217;s <em>The Chronicles of Narnia<\/em>, one of the characters finally arrives at heaven and says, &#8220;This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now.\u00a0 The reason we loved the old Narnia is that is sometimes looked a little like this.&#8221; Heaven will be like our earth, our cities, our homes-but transformed. p. 68<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4 p. 73<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fasting allows not only your mind but also your whole body to yearn for God as your grumbling stomach reminds you of your dependence.\u00a0 Fasting is a way to practice death by allowing our bodies to decay for a brief time.\u00a0 It is a way to kill the desires of our flesh. p. 97<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hope of the Resurrection: How Jesus&#8217;s Defeat of Death Changes Everything by Patrick Schreiner seemed to be a really solid way to prepare my heart for Easter this year.
