{"id":3840,"date":"2011-07-28T06:49:44","date_gmt":"2011-07-28T11:49:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=3840"},"modified":"2011-07-28T06:49:44","modified_gmt":"2011-07-28T11:49:44","slug":"book-review-how-did-you-do-it-truett","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=3840","title":{"rendered":"Book Review: How Did You Do It, Truett?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3841\" href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?attachment_id=3841\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3842\" href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?attachment_id=3842\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3842\" title=\"141\" src=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/1411-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/1411-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/1411-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/1411.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my effort to grow as a leader in the area of serving others, I have been looking for opportunities to study the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chick-fil-a.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chick-fil-A<\/a> way of doing things.\u00a0 In my observations, it has become very obvious that Truett Cathy has set the pace as a servant leader for many years.\u00a0 He expects this characteristic in those that are on his team and he intentionally cultivates this culture in his organization.\u00a0 I ran across the book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/How-Did-You-Do-Truett\/dp\/1929619332\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1311852282&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\">How Did You Do It, Truett?<\/a> and decided that I should read it.\u00a0 The book is only 95 pages long and it reads like you are having a conversation with Truett sitting at a table at Chick-fil-A.<\/p>\n<p>I would encourage any leader that wants to cultivate an atmosphere of serving others to read this book and share it with their team.\u00a0 Here are the things that I underlined while reading&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My most satisfying day is the day I work the hardest &#8212; the day I get the most accomplished.\u00a0 I think most people are that way.\u00a0 When they do something less than what they are capable of doing, it&#8217;s work.\u00a0 When they do an outstanding job in their performance, it&#8217;s rewarding to them.<\/li>\n<li>Everyday we remember that the Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich is really a simple concept.\u00a0 We take advantage of our biggest opportunities when we keep it simple, focusing on serving great tasting food in a clean, wholesome environment with great customer service.<\/li>\n<li>How do we balance the pursuit of profit and personal character?\u00a0 For me, I find that balance by applying Biblical principles.\u00a0 I see no conflict between Biblical principles and good business practices.<\/li>\n<li>When we&#8217;re fully committed to something, we&#8217;re not likely to give up or be discouraged.\u00a0 It works in our business life as well as in our personal relationships and our relationship to Jesus Christ.\u00a0 When you&#8217;re fully committed, you see strange and unusual things happen that otherwise wouldn&#8217;t if you were not committed.\u00a0 That&#8217;s been a key to my life, a key to success.\u00a0 When you&#8217;re fully committed, you&#8217;re not likely to fail.<\/li>\n<li>Truett has always been interested in innovation;
