I don&#8217;t franchise my glory&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I posted <a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=485\">here<\/a> about the Advent Readings I am doing this year based on the passages put together by Mars Hill Church to focus on the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.\u00a0 This week all of the readings are about peace.\u00a0 Our reading for yesterday was Isaiah 42:1-9.<\/p>\n<p>I always teach out of the NIV because I mostly speak to groups of students, however, I usually like to mixup the translations I read during my quiet times.\u00a0 Last night I was rereading this passage from Isaiah on my iPhone using the <a href=\"http:\/\/youversion.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">YouVersion<\/a> software from the iTunes free app store.\u00a0 It is put together by the folks at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifechurch.tv\" target=\"_blank\">LifeChurch<\/a>.\u00a0 There are over 40 different translations in 20 different languages in their software.\u00a0 I decided to read the passage in a few different translations and decided I really liked the way it was spelled out in The Message translation.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t ever teach from The Message because I think it is too loose of a translation, but it was a great new look at a familiar passage.\u00a0 Check it out:<\/p>\n<h3>Isaiah 42:1-9\u00a0(The Message)<\/h3>\n<h4>Isaiah 42<\/h4>\n<h5>God&#8217;s Servant Will Set Everything Right<\/h5>\n<p><span id=\"en-MSG-7902\" class=\"sup\">1-4<\/span> &#8220;Take a good look at my servant.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m backing him to the hilt.<br \/>\nHe&#8217;s the one I chose,<br \/>\nand I couldn&#8217;t be more pleased with him.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve bathed him with my Spirit, my life.<br \/>\nHe&#8217;ll set everything right among the nations.<br \/>\nHe won&#8217;t call attention to what he does<br \/>\nwith loud speeches or gaudy parades.<br \/>\nHe won&#8217;t brush aside the bruised and the hurt<br \/>\nand he won&#8217;t disregard the small and insignificant,<br \/>\nbut he&#8217;ll steadily and firmly set things right.<br \/>\nHe won&#8217;t tire out and quit. He won&#8217;t be stopped<br \/>\nuntil he&#8217;s finished his work\u2014to set things right on earth.<br \/>\nFar-flung ocean islands<br \/>\nwait expectantly for his teaching.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h5>The God Who Makes Us Alive with His Own Life<\/h5>\n<p><span id=\"en-MSG-7903\" class=\"sup\">5-9<\/span>God&#8217;s Message,<br \/>\nthe God who created the cosmos, stretched out the skies,<br \/>\nlaid out the earth and all that grows from it,<br \/>\nWho breathes life into earth&#8217;s people,<br \/>\nmakes them alive with his own life:<br \/>\n&#8220;I am God. I have called you to live right and well.<br \/>\nI have taken responsibility for you, kept you safe.<br \/>\nI have set you among my people to bind them to me,<br \/>\nand provided you as a lighthouse to the nations,<br \/>\nTo make a start at bringing people into the open, into light:<br \/>\nopening blind eyes,<br \/>\nreleasing prisoners from dungeons,<br \/>\nemptying the dark prisons.<br \/>\nI am God.
