{"id":7720,"date":"2013-11-26T09:50:37","date_gmt":"2013-11-26T14:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=7720"},"modified":"2013-11-26T09:50:37","modified_gmt":"2013-11-26T14:50:37","slug":"book-review-all-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=7720","title":{"rendered":"Book Review: All In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/All-In-Decision-Totally-Different\/dp\/0310333059\/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1385475953&amp;sr=1-2\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7721\" alt=\"MarkBatterson_all_in\" src=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MarkBatterson_all_in-183x300.png\" width=\"183\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MarkBatterson_all_in-183x300.png 183w, https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MarkBatterson_all_in.png 275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 183px) 100vw, 183px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.<\/em> \u00a0Joshua 3:5<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I am a huge fan of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.markbatterson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Batterson<\/a>&#8216;s writing. \u00a0He does a fantastic job of sticking to Scripture while also being a great storyteller. \u00a0I just realized that I have read almost all of his books:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=4756\" target=\"_blank\">The Circle Maker<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=6049\" target=\"_blank\">Praying Circles Around Your Children<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=1316\" target=\"_blank\">Primal<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=374\" target=\"_blank\">Wild Goose Chase<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/meganstrange.com\/?p=19\" target=\"_blank\">In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day<\/a>. \u00a0I&#8217;m not sure why I never read <em>Soul Print<\/em>, but I am putting it on my reading list now. \u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/All-In-Decision-Totally-Different\/dp\/0310333059\/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1385475953&amp;sr=1-2\" target=\"_blank\">All In<\/a><\/em>\u00a0is his most recent release and one that many of us can identify with right away. \u00a0The big idea is that &#8220;You are one decision away from a totally different life.&#8221; \u00a0We know that can be a positive difference or a negative difference. \u00a0What choice will you make? \u00a0What choice will I make? \u00a0And&#8230;will I continue to make the right choice everyday?<\/p>\n<p><em>All In<\/em> is an image that we can all identify with. \u00a0It&#8217;s a popular leadership term these days, but Batterson challenges the reader to look at <em>all in<\/em> as a way of life. \u00a0He points to stories of people within his church or famous Christian leaders to illustrate these principles. \u00a0He also points to the greatest story of all time&#8230;the Bible&#8230;for points from the lives of Daniel, Elisha, Abraham, and others who made the choice to go <em>all in<\/em> to experience God at the highest possible level.<\/p>\n<p>I highlighted several things while reading and have posted them below&#8230;pick up a copy of this book and share it with someone in your life that dares to do great things for God!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are one decision away from a totally different life.<\/li>\n<li>When did we start believing that God wants to send us to safe places to do easy things?<\/li>\n<li>Faithfulness is not holding the forts. \u00a0It\u2019s storming the gates of hell.<\/li>\n<li>Who\u2019s following who? Are you following Jesus? \u00a0Or have you inverted the gospel by inviting Jesus to follow you?<\/li>\n<li>Consecration is going <i>all in<\/i> and <i>all out<\/i> for the <i>All in All<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li>Take up your cross daily and follow me. \u00a0Luke 9:23 NLT<\/li>\n<li>Anything less than the complete surrender of our lives to the lordship of Jesus Christ is robbing God of the glory He demands and deserves. \u00a0It\u2019s also cheating ourselves out of the eternal reward God has reserved for us.<\/li>\n<li>You need to put Isaac on the altar like Abraham.<br \/>\nYou need to throw down your staff like Moses.<br \/>\nYou need to burn your plowing equipment like Elisha.<br \/>\nYou need to climb the cliff like Jonathan.<br \/>\nYou need to get out of the boat like Peter.<br \/>\nThere comes a moment when you throw caution to the wind.<br \/>\nThere comes a moment when you need to go <i>all in<\/i>.<br \/>\nThere comes a moment when you need to burn the ships.<br \/>\nThis is that moment.<br \/>\nThis is your moment.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s all or nothing.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s now or never.<\/li>\n<li>God cannot reveal His faithfulness until we exercise our faith. \u00a0But because Abraham went all in, God was able to reveal Himself as Jehovah-Jireh, God our Provider.<\/li>\n<li>Lord, don\u2019t let my gifts take me further than my character can sustain me.<\/li>\n<li>Do you find your identity in <i>who you are<\/i> or <i>whose you are<\/i>?<\/li>\n<li>Religion is spelled <i>do<\/i>. \u00a0The gospel is spelled <i>done<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li>One of our fundamental spiritual problems is this: we want God to do something new while we keep doing the same old thing.<\/li>\n<li>Breaking the alabaster jar is giving what is most precious to you to Him. \u00a0It\u2019s offering Him your past, present, and future. \u00a0It\u2019s finding your identity and security in Christ alone. \u00a0It\u2019s your spiritual dowry. \u00a0And it belongs to the Bridegroom.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Make all you can. \u00a0Save all you can. \u00a0Give all you can.&#8221;-John Wesley<\/li>\n<li>\u201cEternity will not be long enough to learn all He is, or to praise Him for all He has done.\u201d \u00a0A.W. Tozer<\/li>\n<li>Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. \u00a0Set God-sized goals. \u00a0Pursue God-ordained passions. \u00a0Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. \u00a0Keep asking questions. \u00a0Keep making mistakes. \u00a0Keep seeking God. \u00a0Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution. \u00a0Stop repeating the past and start creating the future. \u00a0Stop playing it safe and start taking risks. \u00a0Expand your horizons. \u00a0Accumulate experiences. \u00a0Enjoy the journey. \u00a0Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can. \u00a0Live like today is the first day and last day of your life. \u00a0Don\u2019t let what\u2019s wrong with you keep you from worshipping what\u2019s right with God. \u00a0Burn sinful bridges. \u00a0Blaze new trails. \u00a0Don\u2019t let fear dictate your decisions. \u00a0Taking a flying leap of faith. \u00a0Quit holding out. \u00a0Quit holding back. \u00a0Go all in with God. \u00a0God all out for God.<\/li>\n<li>I admire plotters\u2014people who can see into the future and cast a vision. \u00a0I admire plodders\u2014people who put one foot in front of the other, one day at a time!<\/li>\n<li>Courage doesn\u2019t wait until situational factors turn in one\u2019s favor. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t wait until a plan is perfectly formed. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t wait until the tide of popular opinion is turned. \u00a0Courage only waits for one thing: a green light from God. \u00a0And when God gives the go, it\u2019s full steam ahead, no questions asked.<\/li>\n<li>In God\u2019s kingdom, calling trumps credentials every time! \u00a0God doesn\u2019t call the qualified. \u00a0He qualifies the called. And the litmus test isn&#8217;t experience or expertise. \u00a0It\u2019s availability and teachability.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s not about what you do. \u00a0It\u2019s about why you do what you do. \u00a0Ultimately, it\u2019s about who you do it for.<\/li>\n<li>The word integrity comes from the root word integer. \u00a0It refers to a whole number verses a fraction. \u00a0In other words, integrity is all in. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t look for an easy way out. \u00a0Integrity is an all-or-nothing proposition.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOnly one life, \u2019twill soon be past; only what\u2019s done for Christ will last.\u201d \u00a0C.T.
