Book Review: Put Your Dream to the Test by John Maxwell

Do you dream big dreams? Take a moment and consider how many of those dreams have ever come true. Hopefully many of them have come true. Whether they came true or not, John Maxwell challenges us in his newest book Put Your Dream to the Test, to examine the process. Just like anything else in life, chasing dreams requires a strategy and measurable goals.

In Put Your Dream to the Test, Maxwell poses ten questions to consider as you follow after the dreams that God has planted in your heart.

1. The Ownership Question: Is my dream really my Dream?

2. The Clarity Question: Do I clearly see my dream?

3. The Reality Question: Am I depending on factors within my control to achieve my dream?

4. The Passion Question: Does my dream compel me to follow it?

5. The Pathway Question: Do I have a strategy to reach my dream?

6. The People Question: Have I included the people I need to realize my dream?

7. The Cost Question: Am I willing to pay the price for my dream?

8. The Tenacity Question: Am I moving closer to my dream?

9. The Fulfillment Question: Does working toward my dream bring satisfaction?

10. The Significance Question: Does my dream benefit others?

I really enjoyed this book. I try to be strategic and intentional with my time and my efforts in any task and this book is organized to help me methodically consider next steps concerning the dreams that God has placed in my heart and my mind.

I would encourage you to take one dream that you have ever considered and spend ten days working through these ten questions. At the end of the ten days, you will be able to discern whether this is really a dream or if it is more of a passing thought. If it is truly a dream worth pursuing, you will find yourself renewed and excited to run hard after it.
