Book Review: A Faith Full Marriage

If you know me very well, you know I am always up for two things…a good book and a great deal.  Every once in a while, the free books on Kindle meet both of those goals and A Faith Full Marriage by Paul Chappell is one of my most recent favorites from the freebie section.  I just noticed that Kindle has taken this off the free list and raised the price to $3…I’d definitely pay that knowing what I know about this book now. This book is extremely practical and encouraging.  I am so grateful for God’s gift of marriage.  I have never understood more about the love of God than I have these past 9 1/2 years being married to my awesome husband Clint.  Clint loves and serves me so well that I am able to have a much greater appreciation for the gospel.  This book is a quick read, but it has a lot of wisdom packed in.

I highlighted a few things while reading and have pasted those below…

  • The paradox of faith—in giving your life to Christ, you find a greater life. In giving your marriage to Christ, you discover a greater marriage.
  • The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:12, “…for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
  • It is when our spouses are fully accepted, that they can be free to change by God’s grace and purely out of Christlike love!
  • If you want that great marriage God promises, you must commit yourself to unity through openness.
  • Learning to give in to God and to submit ourselves to His laws, His commands, and His guidelines is critical to having His joy in our hearts.
  • Joyce Rogers, the wife of the late Dr. Adrian Rogers wrote, “To prove submission is a wonderful concept, Jesus became the ultimate illustration of its validity. Although He was coequal and coeternal with the Father, He was completely submissive to the Father’s will.”
  • As you personally become more and more like the new nature of Christ, your love for each other will continue to grow stronger and brighter with each passing day.
  • Weak marriages are made up of scorekeepers. Strong marriages are made up of grace givers.
  •  “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” —Ephesians 4:29
