Book Review | Unscripted

Unscripted by Ernie Johnson, Jr. is a great read. I have enjoyed watching and listening to EJ for quite a while. This book was a great way to learn about his life, his faith journey, and what it means to have a blackberry story! As I have watched EJ in some pretty pivotal moments…most recently hosting in LA after Kobe Bryant passed away…I see the foundation of faith that the rest of his life is built on. We share a heart for the Lord and a passion for adoption. What he brings to sports is just icing on the cake!

I highlighted a few things while reading and have posted those notes below…

  • If there’s one thing life has taught me, it’s not to fear the unscripted but to embrace it. Location: 221
  • My father knew how to nurture a friendship with me while at the same time leaving absolutely no doubt about our assigned roles. Location: 326
  • Dallas Willard said it best in a story related by John Ortberg in his book Soul Keeping: “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.” Location: 1,778
