Church Hopping

This morning our family went to church.  We love going to church together and are excited that we are a part of a church that desires to reach our community for Christ.  After the service we ran into a friend that we haven’t seen in a while.  I asked him what he was up to and he was telling us about all of the churches he is involved in.  Not church…but churches.

He was talking about how much he enjoyed our church this morning.  He is going to another church tonight.  That is the church he really feels plugged in to..  He goes to another church on Wednesday nights and is involved with the young adult ministry of another church on Thursday nights.  He also has a Bible study that sometimes meets on Tuesday evening at another church.  I also just checked his Facebook wall and he has quotes from pastors of several other churches to go with all of the Christian bands he mentions on his wall.

I realize there are a ton of other negative things this kid could be involved in and going to church is definitely better than…going to jail, being on the news, doing drugs, losing your job, etc.  This is becoming a disturbing trend for THE CHURCH. If you are IN CHURCH all of the time, how can you BE THE CHURCH to a lost and dying world?  I am definitely speaking from experience here.  I work in a Christian school, all my friends are Christians (mostly from my school), and we are active in our church…we even teach Sunday School!  Where does THE CHURCH go to meet THE WORLD?

We have been called to The Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20, “18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Hey Christians…where do you go and what do you do on a consistent basis to go to THE WORLD as a part of THE CHURCH to share THE GOSPEL so that lost people can hear about the love of CHRIST?  Discuss…
