Book Review: Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus

“It was then that I realized the value of apologetics and what the arguments had done for me. All my life, barriers had been erected that kept me from humbly approaching God and asking Him to reveal Himself to me. The arguments and apologetics tore down those barriers, positioning me to make a decision to pursue God or not.” Nabeel Qureshi, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus, Location 3,983

Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus by Nabeel Qureshi is an incredible story of a friend’s faithfulness and persistence in sharing the gospel.  Due to cancer that took his life at an early age, Nabeel Qureshi is in the presence of Jesus after spending the majority of his life as a devout Muslim.  This book is Qureshi’s account of his own journey to attempt to disprove Christianity that ultimately led him to fall in love with Jesus in a way that led to a powerful ministry, life, and family dedicated to the Lord.  I couldn’t put this book down…it provided such a great reminder of what the Lord can do in a life that is truly seeking Him.

I highlighted some of Nabeel’s thoughts while reading and have posted those notes below…

  • When authority is derived from position rather than reason, the act of questioning leadership is dangerous because it has the potential to upset the system. Dissension is reprimanded, and obedience is rewarded. Correct and incorrect courses of action are assessed socially, not individually. A person’s virtue is thus determined by how well he meets social expectations, not by an individual determination of right and wrong. Location: 1,725
  • Effective evangelism requires relationships. There are very few exceptions. Location: 1,902
  • I realized I could no longer uncritically trust what my parents had taught me. I did not doubt their sincerity, their devotion, or their love, but I was beginning to doubt their grasp of the truth. Location: 2,483
  • My battle against the lordship of Jesus was an organic outgrowth of everything that defined me. Location: 2,799
  • A surface-level relationship might snap under the tension of disagreement, but by living our lives together, we were forced to reconcile. Location: 3,105
