Book Review | Get Out of Your Head

“Our emotions were leading us to thoughts, and those thoughts were dictating our decisions, and our decisions were determining behaviors, and then the behaviors were shaping our relationships, all of which would take us back to either healthy or unhealthy thoughts.” Jennie Allen, Get Out of Your Head, p. 8

This book was a great quick read. The major benefit for me was the Scripture cards that came with the book that help me keep my mind focused on the right things. I put those in spots that I can see everyday. I completely understand the premise of the book as I know that my thought life controls so much of who I am and who I say that I believe that God is.

I highlighted several things while reading and posted those notes below…

  • Be transformed by the renewal of your mind. Romans 12:2
  • Learning how to capture our thoughts matters.  Because how we think shapes how we live. p. 5
  • The greatest spiritual battle of our generation is being fought between our ears. p. 10
  • Every lie we buy into about ourselves is rooted in what we believe about God. p. 15
  • Delight in God and His goodness tears down our walls and allows hope, trust, and worship to flood in. p. 128
  • Cynicism erodes our ability to see God rightly. p. 131
  • We worship when we experience awe.  And cynicism and worship cannot coexist. p. 139
