The Golden Compass

Here is an article I wrote for our website at North Cobb Christian about the movie The Golden Compass that will be released tomorrow.

Several NCCS families have asked what our school’s position is on “The Golden Compass” which will hit theaters nationwide on Friday, December 7th.  Our position on this movie and all other media will always be to defer to 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Too often Christians are known for what they are against rather than what they are for.  Sometimes the statements we make against things cause people to shy away from Christianity or conversations about spiritual things.  Our desire as a school is to educate our students to process everything that they see, hear, and experience and to filter it through the Christian worldview that they are developing.  We are challenging them to dig deep into God’s word for the truth and to see what the Bible has to say about how we are to impact the culture for Christ.  In the Bible it doesn’t say that we are to avoid the culture, but instead to engage the world and live in front of them the example of Christ.  Titus 2:7-8 says, “In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.”

Anytime you take your family to see a movie, you have to decide if this is something you want to expose your family to.  We want to help you by providing some information about this movie.  If you choose to see it, please spend some time discussing it as a family.  I have included some articles below that will give you a few different perspectives on the movie.  I hope you will find these to be helpful resources.

As always, thank you for the opportunity to partner with you as you seek to raise children that will impact eternity.
