Happy New Year

One Year Bible

Happy New Year!  I am excited about 2008 and all of the possibilities before us as we embark on a new year.  It is really hard to believe how quickly 2007 went.  I have now been blogging for a year.  I remember starting this blog and wondering how God was going to use this to challenge me.   I have enjoyed getting to share how God is working in my life and also being open about the things I don’t understand.  My goal is to continue to be an authentic believer.

I am usually not much for resolutions because I heard a statistic that most resolutions drop off by around January 14th. The last few years, I have read the One Year Bible in different chunks throughout the year.  I have not read it from cover to cover because I tend to get bogged down with doing several studies at one time.  I need to be reminded that there are no studies that could ever replace just actually digging into God’s word.  I know that I head back to school on Monday at NCCS and that my seminary classes will start back the following week.  There will be tons of things that will vie for my attention, most of them will be very good and godly things, but none of them are more important that knowing God more intimately.

My first reading for yesterday was:
Genesis 1:1-2:25
Matthew 1:1-2:12
Psalm 1:1-6
Proverbs 1:1-6

My reading for today was:
Genesis 3:1-4:26
Matthew 2:13-3:6
Psalm 2:1-12
Proverbs 1:7-9

I am already amazed at the new things that God shows me even when I am reading things I’ve read several times.  I finished up the book Deadly Viper Character Assassins before the end of the year.   Then as I was cruising through Genesis 4 I was reminded that this character struggle has been going on way before it was cool to make kung-fu themed books about it.

Genesis 4:2-7
2  Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. 4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.

Wow!  Thanks Lord for the reminder to be on guard at all times.
