I’m so proud of my friend Andrew Cox on his release of his new book Living Above Your Job. Andrew is a man who is committed to doing just that! I feel certain that is the reason that whenever I bump into him, his wife, and their two boys…they are smiling and enjoying each other’s company. Their family has reached this point one decision at a time. Andrew is well-known in the Metro Atlanta area and beyond as a leader worth following, but it’s only because he is dedicated to making sure his most important legacy is built in his home.
I highlighted several things while reading and have posted those notes below…
- What began with simple moments of saying “yes” to tasks in front of me slowly became moments of recognizing responsibility for people and purpose beyond the work itself. Step by step, moment by moment, the path grew clearer not because the noise faded, but because my understanding of what mattered most came into focus. These moments of clarity shaped my conviction, reminding me that leadership is not found in waiting for the perfect moment, but in responding faithfully to the ones we are given. p. 15
- Confident leaders understand that their calling is not to outrun their peers but to run their race faithfully. p. 44
- Living above the noise is the practice of rising above the daily clamor to focus on what matters most. p. 51
- Success isn’t measured by how tightly you hold the reins, but how confidently you place them in the hands of others. p. 96
- A leadership culture that outlasts the leader is the ultimate expression of living above your job. p. 98
- A resume is a record of what we’ve done; legacy is a reflection of who we’ve been. p. 108
