Daniel 6:16-18

Today’s Reading: Daniel 6:16-18 (English Standard Version)

16 Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declaredt to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!”17 And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.18 Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no diversions were brought to him, and sleep fled from him.

Takeaways:

  • Again, slowly through this section so that we can see God’s plan clearly revealed for Daniel even in the smallest of details.  So often we are guilty of rushing through a situation and not taking the time to recognize the providential hand of God at work.
  • The king had Daniel cast into the den of lions…and then declared that he hoped God would rescue Daniel!
  • By sealing the mouth of the den in such a formal way with his signet, the king was setting a stage for the greatness of God to be revealed in a much more powerful and obvious way!
  • The king spent the night fasting and wrestling with what he had done.
  • Have you ever been under that kind of conviction?
  • When is the last time that sleep fled me because I was in such a time of prayer?
