My ultimate desire in life is to be known as a student of God’s Word that is running hard after Christ. To that end, I must study His Word to know Him more deeply. That is the only way I will ever be equipped to battle the lies this culture is trying to lead me to believe. I want to know His truth.
This has continued to be a theme in my personal study as well as different chapels and other opportunities at school lately.
I was rereading John Piper’s Think the other day and ran across this from Chapter 3: Reading as Thinking.
While all of God’s creation serves to reveal him in some way, he has willed that the clearest and most authoritative knowledge of him this side of heaven come through his written Word, the Bible. That is why our focus will be there. The Bible is the main place that we come to know God, and the Bible is a book, and a book requires thinking. From the foundation of knowing God through this book, it is then possible to move out and think fruitfully about all of life.
1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
