We are not normally much for Spring Break vacations. We usually use the time to take care of things around the house to take some short trips to visit family, which is always a great time! A few weeks ago, Clint said, “I’d really like to go somewhere.” So…we jumped right on it and booked a studio condo on the beach in Destin. I’ve been going to Destin with my family since I was a kid. As a youth counselor and youth minister, I’ve helped organize two youth camps at the beach. Clint and I spent time in Destin for our honeymoon and then again a couple years later with my whole family to celebrate both my brother and sister graduating from college. Everytime we go to Destin, we always stay at Sandpiper Cove. Emma has been to the beach a few times, but this was her first time to Destin and we all had a great time!
We drove down very early Sunday morning and made it early enough to have most of the day Sunday on the beach. We ate dinner Sunday evening at The Back Porch and then drove down to SanDestin, Seaside, and Watercolor. It is amazing how much those areas have grown. We grabbed some ice cream in Watercolor before heading back to the condo for the night. Clint had to work most of Monday, but Emma and I had a great time playing at the beach. Clint brought us lunch and then took her in for a nap. I enjoyed some time reading on the beach and then met them at the pool to round out the afternoon. We ate dinner Monday evening at Fudpucker’s and then went back to the condo to watch the Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship. We woke up Tuesday morning to a thunderstorm that seemed to have settled in for the morning. Clint and Emma headed out to Waffle House and I did some reading and checked the weather. When they returned, the thunder had cleared out, so we decided a few sprinkles on the beach were worth it and headed out. Eventually the sun came out and we stayed on the beach for a long time. One last trip to the pool and then we cleaned up and headed to Dewey’s Destin for our last dinner at the beach. We’d never been there, but it came very highly recommended from several Twitter/Facebook friends, so we decided to give it a try. The food was great and the view of the bay at sunset was awesome! We went into a few surf stores and picked up a shirt for Emma before a quick trip to Yogurt Mountain on our way back to the condo.
We packed up Wednesday morning and began the journey back to Atlanta. Our family had a GREAT time just spending time together. It was so fun to see Emma have such a great time playing in the waves and digging in the sand. She was so proud of herself for not being scared of the waves. She is definitely our adventurer!
