Due to some transportation scheduling issues, we didn’t have to be at the bus until 7:30 this morning…2 whole hours later than usual. Everyone was pretty excited to hear that news at the end of devotions last night! We had a lot of fun practicing our Spanish worship songs last night and Chloe shared a great devotion about the fact that we don’t always know what God has in store for us.
After a great night’s rest, we headed to the Center where we were greeted by several excited children. They were finishing up breakfast, so we jumped in to wash dishes while others grabbed jump ropes and stickers to play with the kids. Our students continue to be great about jumping right in to get involved. We had another wonderful breakfast…banana crepes, ham, cheese, fruit, and juice and coffee. The team headed to City of Hope departed after breakfast and the rest of us washed dishes, the guys started painting the bakery, some girls worked on touch up paint, and the last few continued to entertain the kids. At 10, 11, 1, and 2 we served lunch to different shifts of kids at the Center. Our teams ate in between the groups. Lunch was rice, chicken, veggies, corn tortillas, fruit, and papaya juice. In addition to our group, we served lunch to over 200 kids today!
The afternoon continued much like the morning. At lunch, the City of Hope team shared some updates on their projects. The small house on the property is finished with the in-tiling project, the wall has not come down quite yet, and the paint on the soccer field is going great! We are all getting excited about hosting the Hope for Guatemala ministry kids for a huge party tomorrow at the new City of Hope property!
The Center team also helped load the trailer with supplies to go to City of Hope. I think they are taking everything they own…even the tortilla maker! Our team made churros from scratch and baked bread for the party tomorrow. We wrapped up our afternoon by driving over to City of Hope to meet the rest of the group for dinner and to change for church.
Dinner consisted of chicken, rice, potatoes, green beans, and some type of squash-like vegetable. Everyone enjoyed it and Teams 1&2 showed off their tans, sunburns, and dirt as we all caught up quickly over dinner. Due to all the packing up, it put us a little behind for church. The pastor is on the board for Hope for Guatemala, so Jose called him and the pastor said he’d hold the service for us…and they did!
We attended Wednesday night church at Inglesia Heridad. The pastor had a great message on trusting God. Fortunately Jose’s wife Erin served as the translator and did a great job!
After church we headed back to the seminary. We have had a great day and are ready to get some sleep!
Looking forward to a great Thursday!
