Summer break finally arrived! Once school wraps up for the students, we head to summer schedule and Emma heads to summer camp for a few weeks. Then…we get three weeks off. This year I had to spend one of the weeks at Liberty University finishing up my Ed.S., but Emma wasn’t too upset about that because it meant that she got to go to Cheer Camp for the first time ever. She had a blast…and still hasn’t stopped cheering!
Emma got her cast off on June 10 and the doctor said that her finger was looking great and she was totally released to run and play…and most of all, swim! Our little fish was ready to jump back in the pool and head back out on the boat. A few days after she got her cast off, we spent the day with friends out on the lake and Emma loved every second of being back in the water! Emma hit a few birthday parties at the beginning of June and had a blast at Cedarcrest Church’s Adrenaline Sports Camp (our version of VBS). The last night of VBS was a lot of fun as some terrible storms rolled through and several hundred people had to “duck and cover” at NCCS. Good thing we were prepared for that!
We had a great time celebrating Father’s Day with Clint. Emma and I took him out to eat at Henry’s in Acworth on Saturday night since I was leaving early the morning of Father’s Day to head to Liberty. Then…Emma and Clint went to church together Father’s Day morning and then went out to lunch with Clint’s Dad. Emma went to the pool with Daddy and Papa for the afternoon and had a blast! Emma went to cheer camp all week and then I surprised them by getting home a few hours earlier than expected Friday night…thank you US Air! We hit the road early that Saturday morning to drive to Memphis to spend some time with my family. We went to a Memphis Redbirds game that Saturday evening and then enjoyed my sweet niece’s baptism Sunday morning at Germantown United Methodist Church. My sister and her husband had a really nice brunch at their house with lots of family and friends and then we spent the afternoon at their pool.
We spent Monday running errands around Memphis and eating some awesome BBQ at my Mom’s house. Tuesday morning, Katie, Nora, Emma, and I headed out early to Hattiesburg. We were all headed to the beach Wednesday, but decided to do a halfway stop at JD’s parents house. Clint and JD drove down later that night after work. The girls had a blast visiting Millsaps College…Katie and JD’s alma mater, and taking our time on the drive. Wednesday morning we got up early and drove on into Destin and stayed until Sunday morning.
We had a great time at the beach with our family and Katie’s family. Clint and Emma loved Big Kahuna Water Park so much that they bought a season pass…hopefully we are headed back soon to enjoy a few more beach days! One evening the guys took Emma to see Monster’s University (or Unaverstatee as she says) and Katie and I got Mexican takeout and then took Nora for a long walk. While we were at the beach we ate at some of our favorite restaurants: The Back Porch, Dewey’s Destin, Pepito’s (a new find), Cheeseburger in Paradise, and Pompano Joe’s. We also hit up the outlets and ran into some friends from home. We had a great time and definitely didn’t want to leave on Sunday! We were so grateful for a chance to relax and have some fun!
The first week of July was my last week off, so we were glad to have some time at home. I have posted a ton of pics from June below because we got to do so many fun things!
