STRANGE FAMILY ADVENTURES | APRIL 2024

April 1

10 YEARS | We met this precious one 10 years ago today in Ethiopia! When we met him, his name was “Tariku” which means “man’s story”. We felt the Lord leading us to call him “Elijah” which means “My God is Yaweh”. Eli is one of God’s greatest gifts of grace to our family. We love our precious son! #7000days

PANAMA 🇵🇦 SPRING BREAK 2024 | So grateful for time away with my favorite people! We rested, played, swam, ate (way too much), read, enjoyed the sunshine, had no schedule to keep, and just enjoyed the time together. Eli made friends with kids from all over the world and became the mayor of the pool as usual. To whomever invented spring break, we salute you! #7000days

BREAKFAST BLESSING | Special thanks to the @nccseagles Class of 2025 parents for providing breakfast for our Upper School faculty and staff this morning. Our parents are awesome prayer warriors and are so thoughtful. We are so grateful for their partnership! #GoEagles #WeAreNCCS #NCCSFamily #40YearsOfNCCS #40YearsOfFamily

HANDSOME FELLAS | Check out these cuties! 🥰 Clint and Eli headed down to @georgiatech this evening for the annual mentor recognition dinner at the GT School of Textile Engineering. Clint has been a mentor for somewhere around 20 years investing in lots of different students over the years. Several years ago he started taking Emma or Eli with him so they could see how that program works. I think he’s still hopeful one of them might develop some interest in the Yellow Jackets 🐝. I love my handsome guys and I love how intentional Clint is with pouring into Eli! #7000days

DODGEBALL | Super fun afternoon @nccseagles for the annual Middle School Dodgeball Tournament. Eli and his buddies competed as “Small, but Mighty” and made quite a run through the bracket. I love the fun things our middle school does and was super pumped to see several of our upper schoolers helping as well! #7000days #GoEagles #WeAreNCCS #NCCSFamily #40YearsOfNCCS #40YearsOfFamily

HOOP DREAMS | Tonight we googled the distance of the NBA three point line (29’3”) and the NBA free throw line (15’). Chalk on the driveway. Boy at work. We never have to encourage him to shoot…we just have to make him finally come in at dark. Love it! #7000days

MAN STUFF | On the way home from the baseball game tonight, my gas indicator came on. I still had 35 miles left…and normally would just keep on driving. Eli said “pull into RaceTrac…I got you.” And he did just what he’s seen his awesome Dad model for him and teach him how to do. Eli filled up the car and we were on our way. I’m so grateful for the way @clintstrange32 has been so intentional with pouring into our little guy. Always lots of bumps in the road raising kids…but this one was fun to celebrate. #MySweetBoy #7000days

SENIOR NIGHT + REGION CHAMPS | Last night we celebrated senior night for baseball @nccseagles and wrapped up the region championship in convincing style. I’m so proud of these young men and their coaches. They’ve worked hard and still have a lot of hard work in front of them.

This was our last sports senior night of the year and I always love this view of the senior parents and the guys. For so many years, these parents have been giving the guys opportunities and cheering them on…and in this pic, you can see the guys taking a symbolic step into what’s next while their parents shift to a different season of parenting…always praying and cheering…but from a different vantage point.

I love sports and what it can produce and shape in the life of a kid. There are so many life lessons to be learned on the court, the field, the pool, the track, the mat, etc. The discipleship opportunities abound!

Glory to God…great things He has done and great things He will do. Thank you Lord for giving us a glimpse into where you are working!

God is faithful. He is working.

PROM 2024 | Oh what a night! I’m so proud of our @nccseagles prom committee for putting on a really fun night for our juniors and seniors and their guests at @thefoxglovemarietta. We had a blast dancing the night away. I’m so thankful for our incredible chaperones who made sure everyone was safe and sound…and we loved seeing all the incredible dresses and suits. Our kids were beautiful and handsome! Special memories of fun with friends and a great night on The Marietta Square!

TRIATHLON | Tri season is officially underway with John Tanner #1 in the books. Always such a blast to hang with our @tritheparks crew and cheer on some of the most incredible athletes. Sometimes people see my Tri shirts and ask if I “do triathlons”. Glory no! We just meet up at ridiculously early hours with friends, put stuff together, cheer people on for a few hours, and then pack our party back up in the trailer until the next one.

My job is just to call their names as they cross the finish line. And I love that so many of them are first timers or have had to overcome something really significant to get there.

Swim. Bike. Run. All the cool cats are doing it. Come join us in June for the next race! #7000days

ART SHOW | As always our @NCCSEagles Visual Artists have knocked it out of the park! I got a behind the scenes tour from Mr. Rupp this afternoon and he told me a lot of cool stories about how some of these pieces came to be. I’m so thankful for the variety of ways our student artists are displaying the gifts and talents God has given them. I’m so thankful for Mr. Rupp and our NCCS Art teachers and the great work they do cultivating these talents! Do yourself a favor and head on down to the Fine Arts Building to check out the NS/US Spring Art show! #GoEagles #WeAreNCCS #NCCSFamily #40YearsOfNCCS #40YearsOfFamily

VISION | Super fun day at school as our awesome Head of School led our Upper School Faculty, Staff, and Student Government on tours of Phase 2 of our Upper School building @nccseagles that will be opening this fall. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Todd Clingman for the last 17 years. One of his best leadership gifts is the ability to “see it before he sees it.” I know he was so inspired by the leadership of Dr. Jerry Falwell during his time @libertyuniversity, but I believe Todd has taken it to a whole new level in our community.

I’ve been at the school for 19 years and it’s such a blessing to be at a place where we are challenged to pray big prayers, dream big dreams, and watch what the Lord does. This is a special community and the Lord is moving in a mighty way for His glory! 40 years in…exciting days ahead at North Cobb Christian School! #GoEagles #WeAreNCCS #NCCSFamily #40YearsOfNCCS #40YearsOfFamily
