Emma: January 2014

2014 got off to a great start as we rung in the New Year with a houseful of great friends.  The first week of the year we were still on Christmas break and our family really enjoyed the time together!  One of our most fun days consisted of a fun family lunch out together followed by Emma’s first time Ice Skating at IceForum in Kennesaw.  She was a little skeptical when we first got started, but she hung on tight to us and gave it her best shot.  She ended up having a blast.  I’m not sure that we are looking at an Olympic figure skating career, but I’m sure we will go again soon!

This has been a super cold winter and Emma and I enjoyed some of the College Football Bowl games sitting in front of the fireplace.  We also used some of our time on fun projects: new curtains for the bonus room, a new kitchen rug, Emma decorated a hot chocolate mug for herself, we had a botched attempt at making homemade playdoh, and played a lot of boardgames.  We ate out a good bit that last week of Christmas break and had fun hanging out with friends.

The first day back at school was actually cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather.  The snow never came, but there was a good bit of black ice on the ground and it was definitely the right call to cancel school.  The rest of that week was VERY cold with the windchill hovering right around zero.

Passion City Church invited people to join them for church Sunday night at Phillips Arena since they had rented it out for the Passion conference that weekend.  It was Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend and we had Monday off, so we picked up the Wallaces and headed to Atlanta.  The night was an incredible time of worship and Bible study with the Passion family.  I’m so excited about the new songs that were released during Passion 2014.  We finished our night all together at Pappasito’s and had a great time!

The next week at school was super busy with a ton of meetings and evening commitments.  My goal with Emma has always been to make sure that she knows that she is more important to me than my job.  I bailed her out of school one day for an hour to surprise her and take her to Moe’s.  She thought it was so awesome.  However, she is extremely practical (where does she get that from?) and when I picked her up, she said “but…I already brought my lunch”.  So glad we were able to break free for a bit and have some spontaneous fun!

We had a lot of fun opportunities over the rest of January to hang out with friends, cheer on the NCCS basketball team, do lots of fun things at Cedarcrest church, and then…the last week of the month, SnowJam 2014.  I blogged about that here…definitely some fun adventures!

2014 is off to a great start with the Strange crew!
