Emma: October 2011

We have really enjoyed this last full month before Emma turns 3!  We have been so blessed not to have encountered the “Terrible Twos”.  I feel confident heading into the Threes here in a few weeks.  Emma continues to be such a joy and blessing to Clint and me.  We are so grateful that God chose this spunky little girl to be our daughter.  As the days go along, she becomes more and more confident and creative.  One of my favorite things is that she still likes to be close to Mommy and Daddy.  Even when she is charging out to conquer the world all by herself, Emma will reach bag and grab Mommy or Daddy’s hand to make sure we are with her.  I hope she always knows that we are with her and cheering her on!

This past month was a busy one…they all are!  We made two trips to Memphis.  One quick trip just Emma and me to visit Grandma as we felt like she was in her last days.  Two days after we returned from our quick weekend, Grandma passed away, so we headed back for the funeral.  It was a lot of sweet family time and Emma loved every second of it.  She was great for the funeral.  Right when the priest got started, she fell sound asleep in Clint’s arms and snored the whole time.  Unfortunately for the rest of us, the snoring was pretty loud in the family section and it was hard to keep our composure, but we made it through!  The first weekend we were in Memphis, Uncle Deedle came up with an awesome play to take Emma, Mommy, and Aunt Katie out to dinner in downtown Memphis so we could watch the trolleys and the horse drawn carriages.  Emma loved every minute of it!

We went to a Steven Curtis Chapman/Third Day concert the first Saturday of the month.  It was colder than we anticipated, but we had a great time.  Clint ran in the Atlanta Marathon the last Sunday of October.  It was such a blast to be out there cheering him on.  Leading up to the race, he had a lot of long runs to do on Saturday mornings.  Emma and I enjoyed visiting Starbucks (Megan-chai tea, Emma-apple juice) on our way to NCCS middle school football games and competition cheer meets.  We really had a great time together.  Both Clint and I treasure the time we spend together as a couple, as a family, and individually with our sweet girl.

These days Emma is really big into having her toenails and fingernails painted.  She keeps eating the polish off her fingernails, so we only paint them on Saturdays.  I figure that is a good way to regulate that she isn’t eating too much nailpolish right??!  Emma has always been such a great eater and that continues.  She isn’t really picky about anything.  The only time she doesn’t eat is when her mind is racing too fast about other things she could be getting into.  She loves chocolate chip cookies and frozen yogurt.  Her favorite restaurant is “Welcome to Moe’s”.  She is also really in to imitating everything that Clint or I do.  That can be a blast at times…and other times, a great reminder of how closely she is watching us!

Emma also loves hotels and “Alligators or Bellevators”…more commonly known to the general public as elevators.  We spent the night at a hotel in Atlanta the night before Clint’s marathon and she was so psyched!  We are planning to travel for a few days over Thanksgiving break.  It takes a lot of pressure off of us when we know all she needs is a hotel and an elevator.  I’m sure her expectations will go up one day…but why fight it now?!

Here are some pictures from October with our special little lady…it was another great month!
