Will you love Jesus more?

We are going through a series in chapel at North Cobb Christian called LOVE: It’s All Greek to Me. We have spent the first 3 weeks going through Philos, Eros, and Agape. It has been a great series and I have really enjoyed having different folks teach each week. It has really been a blessing to just listen and soak these past few weeks. The prevailing theme so far has been the question…After people have spent time with you, do they value Christ more?

This has challenged me to remember some milestones in my life. Here are a few I mentioned to our students this morning…

June 4, 1996 I graduated from White Station High School. I walked across the stage, shook Steve Simpson’s hand and received my diploma. I became a Christian summer before my junior year. Did the way I lived those last two years at White Station cause people to love Jesus more?

December 16, 2000 I graduated from The University of Memphis. I walked across the stage, shook Dr. Rawlins’ hand and received my diploma. Did the way I lived during my years at Memphis cause people to love Jesus more?

August 28, 2005 was my last day as the Director of Student Ministries at Acworth United Methodist Church. I served there for 5 years over the student ministry and as the worship leader for the contemporary service. Did the way I lived in front of those folks cause them to love Jesus more?

I’ve been at NCCS for 3 years now. If I were to walk away tomorrow, would the people here love Jesus more because of the life I’ve lived in front of them? Do I keep that in mind with every conversation, every situation, every opportunity?

John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs by Phillips, Craig, and Dean. The song is called “Will You Love Jesus More?” If you happen to read this blog or stopped by for the first time today…hold me accountable to this.

Will You Love Jesus More?
Phillips, Craig, and Dean

I feel quite sure if I did my best
I could maybe impress you
With tender words and a harmony
A clever rhyme or two

But if all I’ve done in the time we’ve shared
Is turn your eyes on me
Then I’ve failed at what I’ve been called to do
There’s someone else I want you to see

CHORUS

Will you love Jesus more
When we go our different ways
When this moment is a memory
Will you remember His face
Will you look back and realize
You sensed His love more than you did before
I’d pray for nothing less
Than for you to love Jesus more

I’d like to keep these memories
In frames of gold and silver
And reminisce a year from now
About the smiles we’ve shared

But above all else I hope you will come
To know the Father’s love
When you see the Lord face to face
You’ll hear Him say “well done”

I’d pray for nothing less
Than for you to love Jesus more

One comment to “Will you love Jesus more?”
  1. MEGAN,
SHEILA AND I HAVEALWAYS BEEN ENCOURAGED BY WATCHING
AND LISTENING TO YOU. SEEING WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE
BOTH IN AND THROUGH YOU. HIS FINGER PRINTS ARE ALL OVER
YOU! WE ARE GRATEFUL TO THE LORD THAT YOU STILL WALK WITH
    HIM.

    DYER
