Happy New Year! We can’t believe that it’s January again…the years are really clicking by! Our family had a wonderful Christmas break and enjoyed every second together visiting with family and friends…and especially some fun memories with just the four of us as we kicked off 2015.
We celebrated our last Christmas on January 3 with Clint’s dad Marty. We had a great time catching up with him and it was a great way to wrap up all of our Christmas festivities. Over the first few weekends of January, we had a few Saturday afternoon varsity girls basketball games at school and Emma was my sidekick for those. She even sang the National Anthem for one of them. I was kind of glad to hear her say that she got a little nervous! What a treat it is to see our girl stepping up to do things outside of her comfort zone!
Emma and Eli continue to have a blast playing together. The cold days of January provided lots of evenings at home to just play inside. Eli got a basketball goal for Christmas and the four of us have already logged lots of hours “shooting hoops” in Eli’s room together. In fact, Emma has been asking me to take her to school early so she has time to go to the gym to “get in her shoots”. I love where all of this might be heading! Emma is still very interested in reading, writing, drawing, and math. Our school started a new program called RAZ kids that allows the kids to log in on a computer or iPad to read books and take comprehension quizzes. Emma tries to knock out 7 or 8 books a night to advance to the next level. I have always loved reading and am so glad that it looks like Emma does too! On the other hand, Clint has lots of other fun interests! He’s pretty committed to his one book a year strategy!
On the MLK Holiday, Emma and I spent the morning together at Build a Bear and visiting some of her other favorite stores before we went out to lunch together and then spent the afternoon at school announcing basketball games. January provided lots of good opportunities for long leisurely dinners and lunches with friends and I hope that will define our 2015…relationships and time. We also enjoyed lots of NCCS basketball games and hope that our team will go deep into the playoffs this year. We love cheering for the Eagles!
